13th November 2020, Friday Dhan Teres day, This festival is celebrated on the Trayodashi date of Kartik Krishna Paksha. It is a tradition to buy something new on this day. It is customary to buy brass and silver utensils in particular. It is believed that whatever is purchased on this day has benefits. Wealth increases. Therefore, Lakshmi is worshipped on this day. Dhanvantari also are among the fourteen gems received during the Samudra Manthan performed jointly by the gods and asuras. This date is also known as Dhantrayodashi. On this day, Dhanvantari is worshipped along with Lakshmi. Deepawali is one of the major festivals of India. Deepotsav begins with Dhanteras. In Jain Agam (Jain literature ancient), Dhanteras is called ‘Blessed Teras’ or ‘Dhyan Teres’.It is believed that Lord Mahavira had gone to the third and fourth meditations on this day to stop yoga. After three days of meditation, Nirvana (Moksha) was achieved on the day of Diwali while doing yoga. Since then, this day became famous in Jain Agamas Blessed Teres. Dhanteras is also celebrated as National Ayurveda Day.

On Dhanteras, people worship Goddess Lakshmi for a prosperous life and well being. In the evening hours, after getting rid of all waste and cleaning the house thoroughly, a lamp is lit to mark the sanctity of the house. Devotional hymns are sung eulogizing the Goddess of wealth and sweets and fruits are offered to her.
