History This year Vishwakarma Day comes importance on 8th November. Vishwakarma Day or Vishwakarma Jayanti or Vishwakarma Puja is devoted to Lord Vishwakarma, who is considered as the designer of the world. He created the holy city of Dwarka that was ruled by Krishna. Lord Vishwakarma also created several weapons for Gods. Vishwakarma Day celebrates the birth anniversary of Lord Vishwakarma each year and is observed on 8th November according to the calendar. The day is computed based on Bisuddha Siddhanta. In eastern Indian states such as Tripura, West Bengal, Orissa and Jharkhand, Vishwakarma Day is celebrated as Biswakarma Puja. It is an important day for craftsmen and artisans across the nation. The festival is celebrated after Diwali in Bihar and a few northern states. Lord Vishwakarma also engineered very powerful and unique weapons for the God.

Vishwakarma was used to be another name of Brahma. The story behind the universe was indeed being created away from the navel mirrors of Lord Vishwakarma which shows that Brahma was creating the universe. Later on, the name was used to credit other gods too.

On the day of Vishwakarma Puja, the industries and factories observe a no-work day; but, are heartily open for the entire workforce and their families to come and participate in the rituals. During the day of the puja or a day before, colorful pandals are set up inside the premises of industries and factories after which the decorated idols and images of Lord Vishwakarma are brought inside the pandals and are established ritualistically. They pray to Lord Vishwakarma for a better future and safe working conditions.
